About

I'm Samantha and I LOVE to read.

Not only am I an avid reader of all kinds of books, I'm also a writer. A few years back, I got my English major with an emphasis in creative writing. If only it were that easy to earn celebrity status and have movies made about your novels with Imagine Dragons on the soundtrack.

I don't regret my major. It does give me some sort of background. Plus, I get to do SEO for living, which is exciting. Mostly, though, I just love reading and writing. As a writer, I also love to analyze and review books.

Reading Like a Writer

Reading like a writer, to me, means that I'm always noticing little things that could help me write better. Or that simply help to explain or understand the world through telling a story.

I notice word choice, how an author describes a setting, how scenes and plots flow from page to page, what makes the conflict interesting, and what point the author is trying to make with certain details. When I watch movies, I care more about how good the plot and characters are than about how cool the special effects look.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of reading and watching movies for pure enjoyment, but I appreciate how entertainment can be that much richer when you're thinking like a writer at the same time.

Why Reading Matters

I like the adage: "I read, therefore I am," because of the way that reading shapes you as a person. Actually, I stole the phrase from the back of one of my fishing fanatic uncle's T-shirts that said, "I fish, therefore I am." And I substituted reading for fishing because I am that clever.

Reading influences imagination, ever since we are kids. Reading can add to anyone's vocabulary and makes people smarter and happier.

So I Started A Book Club Blog

I've always wanted to start a book club, but the hard truth is that I also have a full time job and I don't have time to clean my house and make Halloween crafts and serve cherry limeade smoothies and host a neighborhood book club at my house.

I sort of live and die by goodreads.com, actually.

If you're like me, you know it is super hard to find time to sit down and read. But that doesn't mean we're giving up reading. Let's sit in pajamas in the comfort of our own houses and talk about books and recommend books to each other. Hopefully it will be as fun for you as it is for me.
